The statement followed the publication of a poster on Khamenei’s website that used the words “final solution” in calling for Israel’s destruction.
The European Union condemned the threatening remarks of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei bringing into question Israel’s legitimacy.
‘’Such statements are totally unacceptable and represent a deep source of concern,’’ said EU’s foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell in a statetemnt issued on behalf of the EU.
‘’They are also incompatible with the objective of a stable and peaceful Middle East region pursued by the EU,’’ the statement added.
‘’The European Union reiterates its fundamental commitment to the security of Israel,’’ it said.
The statement followed the publication of a poster on Khamenei’s website that used the words “final solution” in calling for Israel’s destruction. The words ”final solution” usually refer to the genocide of Jews by the Nazis during WWII.
The poster showed people celebrating at the Temple Mount compound in Jerusalem after apparently capturing it from Israel as a Palestinian flag is raised over the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
“Palestine Will Be Free. The final solution: Resistance until Freedom,” the text on the poster saild.
Khamenei has called for Israel’s destruction on numerous occasions and frequently refers to Israel as a “cancerous tumor.”
