PARIS—Anti-Semtism and security needs of France’s Jewish community were discussed during a meeting between French Interior Minister Christophe Castaner and Francis Kalifat, head of Crif, the umbrella representative group of French Jewish institutions.
During the meeting, also attended by Secretary if State Laurent Nunez and Crif Vice President Yonathan Arfi, Kalifat underlined the insecurity prevailing in certain neighborhoods in which the Jewish community feels deeply threatened.
He also recalled the feeling of fear among all Jews in France.
The Crif President praised the government’s decision to strengthen the protection of Jewish schools and places of worship.
Recent recent figures showing a rise of anti-Semitic acts in France were also reviewed. The Interior Minister testified to the government’s concern at this rise of anti-Semitic hatred and assured the Jewish leader of his vigilance on this topic.
