The National Bureau of Vigilance against Antisemitism said it considers this attack – which occurred on December 13- to be anti-Semitic in nature ‘’because the victim was identified as Jewish by the fact that a mezuzah (religious object) is attached to the lintel of his door.’’
An elderly Jewish woman was violently assaulted in Paris last month at her home by two teenagers of African descent, the National Bureau of Vigilance against Antisemitism (BNVCA) revealed as it denounced and condemned this ‘’antisemitic attack.’’
The antisemitism watchdog in France said it considers this attack – which occurred on December 13- to be anti-Semitic in nature ‘’because the victim was identified as Jewish by the fact that a mezuzah (religious object) is attached to the lintel of the door.’’
For the BNVCA, in the same way that a Jew is identified as such by wearing a “kippa”, apartments inhabited by Jewish families are identified by the presence of this apparent religious object.
The 74-year-old victim, only identified as ‘’Mrs. L.U’’,reporte that two assailants rang the doorbell of the apartment, posing as the guards of the building. They forced the entry, carry violent blows on all the woman’s body and tied her up, sat down on the sofa of the living room and ordered her to indicate where her jewels are. One of the aggressors, who remained with her in the living room, continues to strike her while the other searched the apartment.
‘’This scene of particularly traumatic crime lasted nearly half an hour,’’ said the BNCVA.
The assailants took away all the gold jewels of the victim.
The woman presented wounds, bruises in the face and in the leg, and remains very shocked. She had been living in this building for 30 years and would like to leave it, especially since the previous week a similar anti-Semitic attack occurred in the apartment of a Jewish family, in a neighboring street of the 19th district of Paris, the organization said in a statement.
The BNVCA has asked the police ‘’to do everything possible to identify the two assailants and to proceed with patrols of a nature to protect the residents of this neighborhood that has become dangerous and ill-famed.’’
