JERUSALEM—Both Israel and the Palestinians will have to make hard compromises to reach a peace agreement,” said US Presindent Donald Trump in an interview with Israel Hayom daily newspaper’s editor-in-chief Boaz Bismuth.

He was replying to a question on whether Israel would have to give something in return for Trump’s declaration recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

Calling the city “your wonderful capital,” he added that its recognition as Israel’s capital was very important for many people whom Trump said thanked him. Trump described the move as an important promise he made and kept.

The American president said the declaration was the high point of his time in office.

“I have been thanked and in some cases not thanked, to be 100% honest about it. But it was a very important pledge that I made and I fulfilled my pledge,”he said.
