Israeli minister slams EU’s statement on the Golan Heights as ‘shameful’

JERUSALEM—“The Golan Heights and Jerusalem and the Land of Israel has been the  home of the Jewish people thousands of years before France was the home of the French and the United Kingdom  the home of the British,” said Israeli Minister of Education Naftali Bennett in a reaction to an EU  statement opposing Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights.

In the statement, issued on Wednesday, the European Union’s foreign policy head Federica Mogherini said : ‘’The position of the European Union as regards the status of the Golan Heights has not changed. In line with the international law and UN Security Council resolutions 242 and 497, the European Union does not recognise Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Golan Heights.’’

On Monday, U.S. President Donald Trump signed a proclmation recognizing Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heghts.

Naftali Bennett, who heads the New Rght party, slammed the EU statement calling it ‘’shameful.’’ “So we will continue building our amazing country. We will continue defending the free world from radical Islam, even though you do not deserve it,” he  said.

Kulanu Party head and Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon said, “We now allow those who keep the Iranian terror regime’s economy afloat to preach morality to us. Israel will not be held hostage by peace refuseniks and the policies of the Axis of Evil,” he  said.

“The whole world knows that the Golan Heights is an inseparable part of the Land of Israel and the State of Israel,” he added.
