”I am proud of the action of CCOJB over the last three years, on each of our levers of action: politics, media and litigation. We do not lack work, challenges and projects, but we also do not lack courage and willpower.”
BRUSSELS—Yohan Benizri, a year-old lawyer, has been reelected as head of the umbrella representative group of Belgian Jewish organisations, known by the acronym CCOJB, for a three years term by the General Assembly.
He was the only candidate for his own succession.
In 2016, at the age of 34, he had been elected for the first time after serving as the organization’s secretary general since March 2015. He had promised to modernize the association’s media presence, to bring the voices of organizations at political level, and to use litigation as a last resort. He had also been been elected as Vice President of the European Jewish Congress (EJC) and of the World Jewish Congress (WJC).
He said: “I am very pleased that my presidency is the subject of such a large consensus at the level of CCOJB and at the international level. It was not obvious at first. I am proud of the action of CCOJB over the last three years, on each of our levers of action: politics, media and litigation. We do not lack work, challenges and projects, but we also do not lack courage and willpower. At the dawn of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, I wish to apologize for my mistakes, my gratitude for the honor bestowed on me and the outgoing Board, and my hope for a better tomorrow. “
