As of Sept. 1, anti-Semitic subway hate crimes were up 225% compared to last year, from 12 to 39.

NEW YORK—A spike in anti-Semitic graffiti is driving a surge in subway hate crime investigations this year, the New York Post reported quoting the NYPD Transit Chief.

Through Nov. 3, the NYPD had undertaken 68 hate crime investigations – compared to 44 at the same time last year, he said. Of the 55 graffiti investigations, 39 involved anti-Jewish messaging — twice as many as this time last year.

“It’s swastikas being drawn in various places around subway. Sometimes on the train, in the bathroom, sometimes on the pillar in the subway,” Ed Delatorre told reporters.

As of Sept. 1, anti-Semitic subway hate crimes were up 225% compared to last year, from 12 to 39.

Thirteen of the department’s hate crime investigations involved an assault, Delatorre said .

New York City and the U.S. in general have seen a dramatic rise in anti-Semitic incidents this year.
