BRUSSELS —Belgian Foreign Minister Didier Reynders has condemned what he described as the destruction by Israel of a project financed by Belgium in the West Bank.
Three water tanks and at least 2,500 trees, which were part of the project, were destroyed on July 7 in the Palestinian Bedouin village of Khirbet Ad-Duqaiqah near the city of Hebron, according to Belgian public radio RTBF.
The damages amount to more than 75,000 euros, according to Oxfam, an organization that cooperated with Belgium in the project.
According to RTBF, a similar destruction in the West Bank occurred in 2014.
“As in the last destruction we reacted to the Israeli authorities to condemn and seek compensation. It is unacceptable to see such destructions, ” Minister Didier Reynders told the radio. He added : ” They do not concern only Belgium: a consortium of countries followed our example to ask for reparations to Israel because several projects financed by several countries were also destroyed.”
