NEW YORK—-According to figures from the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), the number of anti-Semitic incidents in the U.S. increased by 67 percent between Jan. 1 and Sept. 30, 2017, in comparison with the same period in 2016.
1,299 anti-Semitic incidents were reported across during that period, compared with 1,266 in all of 2016, of which t703 were incidents of harassment, 162 bomb threats against Jewish institutions, 584 incidents of destruction of property—including 52 against institutions; and 12 physical assaults.
The figures were presented to the Knesset’s Committee for Immigration, Absorption and Diaspora Affairs.
The number of attacks on Jewish schools and community centers doubled, as incidents of harassment and destruction of Jewish property are experiencing a sharp rise on US college campuses under the guise of anti-Israel attacks.
The incidents took place across the United States. New York, which has the largest Jewish community, witnessed 267 incidents; California witnessed 197; Florida—69; and Pennsylvania—58.
However, many additional anti-Semitic incidents go unreported, often due to victims fearing retaliation or complications with classifying an incident as anti-Semitic.
