The EU remains firmly committed to the two-state solution in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, said EU Council President Charles Michel.
Addressing the United Nations General Assembly on Friday, he said the EU ‘’will spare no effort with our international partners, including the Quartet, to facilitate the return of Israelis and Palestinians to the negotiating table, to find a negotiated solution within internationally agreed parameters.’’
‘’In a tormented region, the issue of peace between Palestinians and Israelis remains more timely than ever. We must continue to support the legitimate aspirations of both parties,’’ Michel said.
He said the EU also welcomes Israel’s rapprochement with countries in the region as ‘’a positive development for peace and stability in the Middle East.’’
In his address he reiterated the EU’s position that the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran ‘’remains key for global non-proliferation and regional security.’’
‘’It is therefore essential to preserve the JCPOA and for all parties to fully implement it.,’’ he added.

The United States has reimposed United Nations sanctions on Iran but the EU considers that due to the fact that the US unilaterally ceased participation in the JCPOA (the 2015 nuclear agreement), ”they have not participated in any JCPOA-related activities.’’
