A police patrol will now be positioned in front of the school and security will be reinforced on other buildings of the Jewish community.
A man armed with a knife was arrested Friday morning near the Yavné Jewish school in Marseille. He was taken into custody.
As the children arrived at the school, in the city’s Boulevard Barry, the man was subdued by surveillance agents from the school.
According to Nice Matin newspaper, after having attracted the attention of the security guards in the street with his suspicious behavior, the man entered a kosher grocery store, located not far from the school. It is inside the store that the school security guards overpowered the man, while the students had been confined beforehand in the school for security reasons.
The man was later arrested by police and heard by departmental security investigators.
No injuries are to be deplored in this case, police underlined. A police patrol will now be positioned in front of the school and security will be reinforced on other buildings of the Jewish community.
