10-year-old Laurent Simons of Belgium will become one of the youngest people in the world to graduate from a university.
Laurent, who was born in Ostende, Belgium, and has an IQ of 145, studies electrical engineering at the Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands. He entered when he was 8 and is set to complete a three-year program in 10 months.
According to the Israeli ambassador to Belgium and Luxembourg, Emmanuel Nahshon, the child prodigy wants to continue his studies in a university in Israel. “This young Belgian genius wants to study at an Israeli university and change the world,” Nahshon explained.
Laurent and his parents recently met with Ambassador to hear about Israel’s opportunities in higher education. The boy’s goal is to create artificial organs to help extend life expectancy.
“I was very happy to meet young Laurent and his parents,” Nahshon said. “He is a very impressive person and we hope to help him find a suitable university in Israel, in order to develop his unique talents.”
Simons is due to finish his current studies in December.
However, he left the university after a dispute over his graduation date, CNN reported, adding that he then received an offer to study for a doctorate at a college in the United States.
