Israeli Prime Minister Lapid in Berlin for talks with German leaders on nuclear Iran

"This evening, I arrived in Berlin for a diplomatic visit accompanied by Holocaust survivors Pnina, Avraham, Shoshana, Yisrael, and Zvi. As we stepped off the plane together and onto German soil, we were welcomed by a German military honor guard,’’ said Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid. Picture by Kobi Gideon / GPO.

Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid is to have talks Monday in Berlin with German Chancellor Olaf Schol, Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

The talks are expected to mainly focus on the Iran nuclear deal.

Germany, France and the United Kingdom issued a statement over the weekend expressing what they called “serious doubts” over Iran’s intention in seeking a deal.

The meeting between Lapid and Steinmeier will be held at the house of the Wannsee Conference outside of Berlin — the site where the Nazis planned the Final Solution (the destruction of the Jews in German-occupied Europe).

Lapid, who arrived Sunday in the German capital, is accompanied by Holocaust survivors Pnina, Avraham, Shoshana, Yisrael, and Zvi.

“This evening, I arrived in Berlin for a diplomatic visit accompanied by Holocaust survivors Pnina, Avraham, Shoshana, Yisrael, and Zvi. As we stepped off the plane together and onto German soil, we were welcomed by a German military honor guard,’’ he said.

He added, ‘’This is their victory, mine as the son of a Holocaust survivor and ours as a people and a nation. We will never forget.”
