Two more men were arrested in connection with the investigation into last week’s  Texas synagogue hostage-taking by British gunman Malik Faisal Akram.

Counter Terrorism Police North West said one man was arrested in Birmingham and another inManchester. They are being held for questioning and have not yet been charged.

The force said it was continuing to support U.S. authorities with their investigation into Saturday’s hostage-taking in which Malik Faisal Akram, a 44-year-old British citizen, took four people hostage at a Texas synagogue on a Shabbat serfice in a 10-hour standoff that ended in his death. All four hostages were unharmed.

On Sunday, police arrested British teenagers in Manchester as part of the investigation. They were later released without charge.

Press reports in the UK said that MI5, the country’s interior intelligence service, had placed Malik Faisal Akram under investigation as a potential Islamist terror threat in 2020.

The intelligence investigation into Akram was closed in the second half of that year and concluded that Mr. Akram did not pose a significant threat and he was marked as a “closed subject of interest” in police files.

UK authorities subsequently did not pass any information to their US counterparts, allowing Akram to enter the US as a tourist  and make his way to Texas.

In a chilling conversation with his brother in Blackburn from inside the Congregation Beth Israel synagogue in Colleyville, Akram, 44: “I’m opening the doors for every youngster in England to enter America and f*** with them”.

The disturbing 11-and-a-half minute audio recording, obtained from a security source, reveals a conversation between Akram and his brother, Gulbar, 43, who was speaking from a police station in Blackburn in an attempt to persuade him to surrender.

”The entire incident was an obvious example of the grossest anti-Semitism,” Jake Wallis Simons of The Jewish Chronicle told the New York Post.

Akram told authorities he would free the hostages in exchange for the freedom of Pakistani terrorist Aafia Siddiqui who is serving an 86-year sentence in Fort Worth after attempting to murder US service members.

”The woman he sought to free is an infamous anti-Semite. She actually demanded during her trial that possible jurors undergo DNA tesing so that no one with a drop of Jewish blodd stood in judgement of her,” said Wallis Simons.
