Two French journalists sanctioned after a meeting with Israel’s ambassador

The two journalists from BeurFM met the Israeli ambassador to France in order to prepare their program on the normalisation of relations between Morocco and Israel.

Rose Ameziane and Malik Yettou denounced the fact that the radio management ‘’has yielded to the pressures of this active minority on social networks which claims to be anti-Zionist but which, in reality, is anti-Semitic.’’

Two French journalists, working for a local radio station catering mainly to French communities from Maghreb, have been sanctioned and suspended after they met with  the Israeli ambassador to France.

The meeting with Ambassador Daniel Saada was part of the preparation of a program on the normalisation of diplomatic relations between Morocco and Israel. The embassy posted a picture of the meeting on Twitter.

The two journalists, Rose Ameziane and Malik Yettou, were told by the  management of BeurFM radio that the program they hosted was cancelled ‘’because of a lack of audience.’’ “We were told that dealing with the normalization of the Morocco-Israel relationship was not part of the editorial line,” said Rose Ameziane.

They denounced a form of antisemitism.

“We made the choice to offer an open debate program without taboos. Today, it is amazement and disgust,” said Yettou.

‘’Our goal was to give our listeners a reading and understanding grid so that they form their own opinion. We also wanted to understand how tomorrow the King of Morocco could become the conciliator of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict,’’ he added.

He denounced the fact that the management ‘’has yielded to the pressures of this active minority on social networks which claims to be anti-Zionist but which, in reality, is anti-Semitic.’’

“In general, we only speak of Israel through the prism of the conflict with the Palestinians. Yet in France there is a strong North African community and a strong Jewish community. The symbolism of such an agreement can build bridges,’’ he said.

Contacted by AFP, the management of the radio denied the facts, affirming that there had been “no sanctions” and denying any anti-Semitism.
