’The 2015 deal is bad because it will enable Iran to produce everything what is needed to be later a nuclear state, for example ballistic missiles. You don’t build ballistic missiles to put a kinder surprise at the head of it. You build ballistic missiles as a kind of infrastructure to become nuclear later.’’

BRUSSELS—A senior Israeli politician has called on the European Union to join the U.S. sanctions against Iran in order to prevent this country to become nuclear.

‘’Nuclear Iran is an untolerable threat to us and the region and we think that the sanctions aainst Iran will prove to be effective if Europeans join the U.S. in this step,’’ said Uzi Dayan, a member of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party who has been elected to the Knesset, Israel’s parliament,  following the recent elections.

He was responding questions from European journalists in Brussels in meetings organized by Europe Israel Press Association.

A year after the U.S. withdrew from the JCPOA, the 2015 nuclear deal with Tehran, Iran has threatened that it will no longer be committed to parts of the deal with the other world powers that signed the deal.

On Wednesday, Tehran announced that it would resume high-level enrichment of uranium if world powers do not keep their promises under the deal, as well as protect Iran’s oil and banking sectors from U.S. sanction.

‘’We believe that the U.S. sanctions are very effective because the 2015 agreement, which was very bad one, doesn’t bring Iran backward and after it will expire Iran will cross the line and we will have a Shia nuclear bomb in the Middle East. If Iran doesn’t understand that, we will have to protect ourselves,’’ said Dayan, who is a nephew of former Defense Minister Moshe Dayan.

He said Israel differs from the EU view that the JCPOA works. ‘’The deal is bad because it will enable Iran to produce everything what is needed to be later a nuclear state, for example ballistic missiles. Dayan, a former Deputy Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and former national security advisor to two Prime Ministers, stressed that Israel doesn’t threat Iran. ‘’We do have our capabilities but we don’t have a mutual border, we don’t have a conflict of interests. We are not the enemy of Iran and we think that Iran shouldn’t be the enemy of Israel. But Iran is insisting on going nuclear and explains clearly that Israel is its main target,’’ he added, pointing out Tehran role in creating outposts in Syria and supporting terrorist groups in the Gaza Strip.

”Our policy is to protect our citizens,” he insisted.
