Subway driver in Brussels fired for an action in support of Palestine

According to the subway company, the agent ‘’violated internal metro operating rules by keeping the doors of his vehicle closed a the station but also for failing to respect the principle of neutrality in the workplace, be it political, philosophical or religious.’’

 

A subway driver in Brussels was fired for ”misconduct” for an action carried out in the middle of his work in support of Palestine.

The event took place on October 13, a few days after the Hamas attacks on Israel and on the day of Israel’s request to evacuate the northern Gaza Strip.

According to Belgian media, the driver twice refused to serve a stop on the line and delivered a message to passengers with his microphone.tto passengers,  saying that it was contrary to human rights to deport over a million Gazans and that, as a sign of protest, the subway would not stop at the station.

Some passengers reportedly lodged complaints while others reported the incident on social networks. The driver was summoned by STIB, the Brussels public subway company and announced his immediate dismisal for misconduct.
