Singapore plans to open an embassy in Tel Aviv, its foreign minister said on Monday.

The announcement was made during a meeting in Jerusalem between Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan and Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid.

This will be the first Singaporean embassy in the country since relations were established in 1965. Israel has had an embassy in Singapore since 1968.

“This is further evidence of the good and special relations between our two countries,” said Lapid.

Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz reportedly visited the country last year.
