Significant rise in the number of Jewish people who died from coronavirus in the U.K.

''At this time of national and international crisis it is up to all of us to do whatever we can to help those in need both within and outside our community, the Board of Deputies said.

69 Jewish people in Britain haved died from coronavirus, the Board of Deputies of British Jews (BOD) announced, marking a significant rise from previous figures.

According to the Board, the figure covers fatalities both in hospital and beyond, using data gathered from six of the largest Orthodox and denominational burial boards.

“We wish their families a long life, and pray that the memory of their loved ones should be for a blessing,” a spokesperson for the BOD said.

The overall number of people who died with coronavirus in the UK rose by 684 in 24 hours, latest figures show.

The Department of Health said that the total number of deaths is now 3,605, up from 2,921. There are 38,168 confirmed cases.

The Board of Deputies said it is following government guidelines on how to contain the transmission of coronavirus. ”It is vital that we all implement these precautions. Should the guidelines change, we will review our policies accordingly,” it said.

The organisation added: ”At this time of national and international crisis it is up to all of us to do whatever we can to help those in need both within and outside our community. We are currently consulting with other community organisations to coordinate these efforts but members of the community also have a crucial role to play in doing whatever we are able to help those in distress in your local community.”
