Outraged reactions after young girl seen wearing yellow star at march against islamophobia in Paris

“No Muslim in France suffers what our parents suffered during WWII and I wish them never to suffer,” said Ariel Goldmann, president of the United Jewish Social Fund.

PARIS—The presence of a young girl wearing a yellow star during a march against Islamophobia in Paris on Sunday triggered many outraged reactions from the Jewish community and politicians.

Widely relayed on social networks, a photo showed a group of demonstrators alongside Green politician Esther Benbassa wearing on their coats a yellow star, reminiscent of the one that was to be worn by Jews during WWII (although it only five branches and not six like the star of David). In the center of the star, the word “Muslim” and next to it, a yellow crescent.

“This photo is to vomit and those who adorned it with this star have dishonoured themselves,” reacted Alain Jakubowicz, former president of the Licra, the League Against Racism and Anti-Semitism. ‘’The crowd chanted “Allah Akbar”. This demonstration of islamo-leftists will remain like the march of the shame,’’ he tweeted.

“No Muslim in France suffers what our parents suffered during WWII and I wish them never to suffer,” said Ariel Goldmann, president of the United Jewish Social Fund.

For Jewish philosopher Bernard-Henri Lévy, this scene is “despicable.’

Aurore Bergé, an MEP for the LREM governing party, “the comparison is indecent.’’

“The situation of Muslims in our country is not comparable to that of Jews in the 30s/40s,” she tweeted.

The march against Islamophobia, which gathered 13,500 people, has been at the heart of a controversy for several days.
