On Holocaust Remembrance Day (Yom HaShoah), which will be marked this week, the Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM), Zikaron BaSalon and the World Zionist Organization (WZO) will be hosting the most personal, global conversation with the last generation of Holocaust survivors by bringing them into the “living rooms” of viewers around the world.
Audiences will ask live questions to the survivors from five continents about their experiences during and after the Holocaust, while also hearing from official national antisemitism commissioners, ambassadors, mayors, members of governments, and representatives of international institutions.
Through personal dialogue and addressing the concerns for the future, this digital gathering will address the need for Holocaust education in preventing Holocaust denial and antisemitism worldwide and the importance of speaking with Holocaust survivors while we still can.
“This is perhaps the last chance to physically interact with a Holocaust survivor for many people around the world,” said Sacha Roytman Dratwa, CEO of CAM. “As Holocaust denial, trivialization and appropriation are rising, it is vital that as many people around the world as possible hear from a Holocaust survivor first-hand about their experiences and the historical truth of the Holocaust.”
“We must then accept the torch of remembrance from them to ensure future generations who will live in a world without survivors that the Holocaust is not forgotten, manipulated or denied.”
Throughout the day long event, participants will hear from Holocaust survivors and decision-makers and opinion-shapers in the U.S., Mexico, Australia, Israel and Poland, like U.S. Senator James Lankford, Commissioner Helena Dalli, European Union Commissioner for Equality, Dr. Felix Klein, Commissioner for Jewish Life and the Fight Against Antisemitism at the German Federal Ministry of the Interior, Professor Irwin Cotler, Canadian Special Envoy on Preserving Holocaust Remembrance and Combating Antisemitism & CAM Board member, and members of parliament from Albania, Greece, the UK and U.S. Congressmen.
