OSLO—The new Norwegian government, formed this week, said it will have a ‘’balanced attitude’’ to the Middle East conflict, actively supporting the goal of Israel and Palestine as two states within secure and international recognized borders and supporting democratic development in the Middle East.

Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg, who leads the Conservative Party, reached a deal with the Christian Democrats to form a center-right majority coalition including her previous partners from the Progress Party and the Liberal Party.

“This is a historic day. Norway is getting its first non-socialist majority government since 1985,” said Solberg.

The new government political platform lays the ground for strengthened cooperation in research, development, trade, tourism and cultural exchange with Israel.

The government does not see boycott of Israel as a contribution to dialogue, understanding and a peaceful development in the Middle East.

It also says it  will not support organizations that promote violence or promote hateful expressions, racism or anti-Semitism, especially in the Palestinian areas.
