New Italian PM Meloni and World Jewish Congress head discuss fight against growing antisemitism

Giorgia Meloni, who took office as Italy’s new Prime Minister last month,  stressed the indispensable importance of Jewish communities for the Italian and European national identity, acording to a statement issued by Palazzo Chigi, seat of the head of government.  

 

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and World Jewish Congress President Ronald Lauder fully agreed on the need for a ”strong and more incisive” common commitment to fight growing antisemitism in all its forms, during a meeting Wednesday in Rome.

The meeting was also attended by the president of the Union of Italian Jewish Communities Noemi Di Segni and the president of the Jewish Community of Rome Ruth Dureghello.

Meloni, who took office as Italy’s new Prime Minister last month,  also stressed the indispensable importance of Jewish communities for the Italian and European national identity, acording to a statement issued by Palazzo Chigi, seat of the head of government.

Head of the nationalist Fratelli d’Italia (Brothers of Italy) party, Meloni swept to victory in an election in alliance with Silvio Berlusconi’s Forza Italia and Matteo Salvini’s League.
