PARIS—A 69-year-old man wearing a kippah was brutally assaulted on Wednesday evening in the 20th arrondissement of Paris as he was heading to a bakery.
A 19-year-old man of North African descent, shouing ‘’Allah Akbar, Live Hitler, Death to the Jews,’’ attacked him and hit him on the body.
The aggressor was arrested and reportedly placed in a psychiatric infirmary.
The police were quick to intervene to help the victim, who lodged a complaint. He suffers from multiple bruises.
The perpetrator of the attack “was arrested and placed in police custody and transferred to the psychiatric infirmary, on the recommendation of the doctor because of his observed state of excitement,” said the National Bureau of Vigilance Against Antisemitism (BNVCA).
The organization deplored that once again a violent individual “who preaches Islamism escapes justice on the grounds that he presents mental disorders, which cannot explain nor absolve everything.”
Since the beginning of 2018, this is the third time the police have requested psychiatric expertise following an anti-Semitic aggression.
