Netanyahu tells cabinet that Israel fully supports US strike on Syria

JERUSALEM—“Israel fully supports President Trump’s decision to act against the use of chemical weapons in Syria,” Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said Sunday, adding that he also applauded the French and British decision to join in this weekend’s strike on targets related to the Bashar Assad regime’s chemical weapons program.

“I spoke with British Prime Minister Theresa May, and told her that the important international message that was conveyed with the strike is zero tolerance for use of unconventional weapons,” Netanyahu said at the weekly Cabinet meeting. “This policy must also be applied to the prevention of nuclear capabilities for terror states and organizations,” the prime minister added.

Netanyahu concluded his remarks by reiterating that the central destabilizing force in the Middle East is Iran and that Syrian President Bashar Assad “must understand that when he allows military entrenchment by Iran and its emissaries in Syria, he is putting Syria at risk as well as endangering the the stability of the entire region.”
