LISBON—A museum inside Portugal’s oldest synagogue has reopened following a two-year renovation.
The Interpretive Center of Tomar Synagogue and Abraao Zacuto Luso-Hebraic Museum in the city of Tomar was built in the 15th century.
The synagogue had been abandoned for centuries before a Polish-born Jew, Samuel Schwarz, restored it 1921.
Inside the synagogue are four pillars, representing Judaism’s four matriarchs: Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel and Leah.
