Mossad says it arrested on Iranian soil head of terrorist cell sent to Cyprus to attack Israelis

On Thursday, the Mossad, Israel’s intelligence service,  revealed details on an operation that thwarted the terrorist cell in Cyprus, including the exposure of the head of the Iranian cell, Yusef Shahabazi Abbasalilu, who had been sent from Iran to Cyprus in order to carry out the attack.

Last week, reports said that Cypriot intelligence services uncovered and thwarted an Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) attack against Israelis in the country. A series of arrests were made.

In a counter-terrorist operation on Iranian soil, the Mossad apprehended Abbasalilu who gave his investigators a detailed confession bringing about the dismantling of the attack cell in Cyprus.

Abbasalilu received detailed instructions and weapons from senior Revolutionary Guards personnel in Iran. During questioning he admitted to his involvement in an attempted attack and described how he tried to carry it out. In the wake of the information that he gave to investigators, the cell was dismantled in an operation by the Cypriot security services.

The revelation shows again continuing effort by the IRGC to carry out terrorist attacks and harm Israelis and Jews around the world.

A senior Mossad official was quoted as saying: “We will reach whoever foments terrorism against Jews and Israelis around the world, including on Iranian soil.”

EJP comments:

This revelation once again highlights the role of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), also known in Persian as Pasdaran, in Iran’s terrorist activities around the world. So why is the European Union waiting to put the IRGC on the list of terror groups and follow the overwhelming call of the European Parliament to do so ?
