U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is to travel to Brussels on Wednesday for a two-day visit which is aimed ”to reaffirm the deep and enduring partnership between the United States and Belgium and the unwavering U.S. support for NATO,’’ the U.S. State Department announced.
During his visit, which comes a few days before the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden, Pompeo is to meet with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sophie Wilmès.
‘’Secretary Pompeo wil highlight the enduring importance of the Transatlantic partnership, champion NATO’s ongoing success in safeguarding the Transatlantic community and adapting to new security challenges, and reaffirm the streght of the bilateral relationship between the Unites States and Belgium,’’ the State Department said.
There was no mention of Pompeo meeting with an EU official.
