Patrick Klugman, lawyer for Samuel Sandler who lost his son and his two grandsons in the attack of a Jewish school in 2012 by Islamist terrorist Mohammed Merah, slammed comments made by the leader of the French extreme left party who predicted a “serious incident or murder” before nerxt year presidential election.
“You will see that in the last week of the presidential campaign, we will have a serious incident or a murder”, to “point the finger at Muslims”, “all that is written in advance”, said Jean- Luc Mélenchon, leader of La France Insoumise party (Unsubmissive France), in an interview.
“You will see that in the last week of the presidential campaign, we will have a serious incident or a murder. It was Merah in 2012, it was the attack on the Champs Elysées (in 2017, a jihadist murdered a police officer), before we had Papy Voise (a retiree assaulted at his home in April 2002), whom no one has ever heard of after. All that is written in advance,’’ added Mélenchon. He was referring to the attack against the Jewish school in Toulouse which took place before the election of former President François Hollande.
Patrrick Klugman spoke of the ‘’extraordinary gravity’’ of Mélenchon’s remakrs. ‘’If he does not withdraw them, we will report to the prosecution because of the dissemination of false news.’’
According to the lawyer, his client Samuel Sandler, “reacted extremely badly”: “He qualified the words of Jean-Luc Mélenchon as being of unheard-of violence, which trivialize and almost deny what happened to his family.’’
The extreme left politician responded by calling the controversy a “distressing buzz”. He said that his detractors came “to deny this evidence that murderers are waiting for the best time to talk about them”.
