Israel’s ambassador to Belgium summoned to the foreign ministry over death of Belgian development agency employee in Gaza air strike

Israel’s ambassador to Belgium Idit Rosenzweig-Abu: ‘’In the meeting I have expressed our regret over every innocent civilian life lost. I have also explained that the house in which the family was staying belonged to a central senior Hamas operative (who was a member of the Enabel Employee’s extended family). That Hamas operative was the target of the air strike.’’

 

Israel’s ambassador to Belgium Idit Rosenzweig-Abu has expressed Israel’s regret over the death  of an employee of Belgian development agency Enabel  and his family killed during an air strike that targeted a Hamas operative in Gaza, during a meeting Thursday with Belgian Foreign Minister Hadja Lahbib and Development Minister Caroline Gennez.

Following the killing, the ambassador was summoned by Lahbib to the Foreign Ministry ‘’to condemn the unacceptable act and demand an explanation,” the minister said on X  social media.  ‘’Bombing civilian areas and population is cobtrary to international law,’’ she said.

‘’I have just concluded a meeting with Foreign Minister Lahbib and Development Minister Gennez,’’ wrote the Israeli ambassador on X.

She added: ‘’In the meeting I have expressed our regret over every innocent civilian life lost. I have also explained that the house in which the family was staying belonged to a central senior Hamas operative (who was a member of the Enabel Employee’s extended family). That Hamas operative was the target of the air strike.’’

”The investigation is still ongoing and I will transfer further information as soon as we have it,” Idit Rosenzweig-Abu said.
