Israeli Ministry of Diaspora Affairs invites public to nominate representative of the Diaspora to light a torch at Independence Day ceremony in Jerusalem

In honor of this year’s 72nd Independence Day celebration of the State of Israel (Yom Ha’atzmaut), the Israeli government would like to honor the Jewish Diaspora by inviting a representative from the Diaspora to light one of the 12 torches at the main ceremony on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.

This torch symbolizes the eternal and profound connection between the Jewish State and the Jewish people.

The Israeli Ministry of Diaspora Affairs invites the public ‘’to nominate a Jewis representative who is a source of inspiration and pride dur to her/his unique contribution in bridging gaps and in creating an atmosphere of acceptance and tolerance among Jewish People to enhance the sense of mutual responsibility and caring.’’

An official committee representing the Israeli government will review the nominations collected by the ministry and select the fitting candidate to light the torch.

Nominations may be submitted in English or Hebrew to the Ministry of Diaspora Affairs: diaspora@pmo.gov.il by March 15,2020.

The ministry asked to add the following information in the application:

-A brief resume of the candidate’s achievements, emphasizing the candidate’s relevance to the selected theme (up to 500 words).

– Support details exemplifying the unique contributions made by the candidate in relation to the theme.

– Contact information of the nominee.

– Contact information of the nominator.
