Israeli man found dead near a synagogue in Kiev

KIEV (EJP)—An Israeli man was found shot dead near a synagogue in central Kiev in what police believe to be a robbery and not an anti-Semitic incident.

The man was identified by local reports as Shachruch Tursunov, a 29-year-old from Jerusalem. His body was found near the Brodsky Synagogue in the center of the Ukrainian capital.

A suspect has been arrested after being found in the victim’s car several hours after the killing. Police said the suspect tried to steal the victim’s car.

The victim was found dead with multiple bullet wounds at the scene of the carjacking, police said in a statement.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry said that the  incident was being handled by the Israeli Embassy in Kiev.
