Investigation launcvhed after anti-Semitic tags discovered in Corsica

Several Corsican nationalist movements also condemned these acts.

An investigation has been opened following the discovery earlier this week of anti-Semitic tags on the road to Calvi airport, on the island of Corsica.

The graffiti was sprayed around the traffic circle leading to the  airport.

Written in black letters on signs, walls and sidewalks, they included the message “Juive fora FLNC IFF” (Jews out, Corsican National Liberation Front, French out). Calvi town hall has had the inscriptions removed, while an investigation into “degradation by inscription” has been handed over to the gendarmerie.

The Terra Eretz Corsica Israel association expressed its indignation in a press release: “Corsica, spared until now, cannot see its image dragged through the mud. These filthy tags written in French raise questions and can only be the work of a few individuals who can in no way claim to be from our island!”

“The immediate removal of the tags by Calvi town hall (…) should not make us any less vigilant. Whatever the perpetrators, whatever the context, anti-Semitism is unacceptable”, said the Corsican section of the Human Rights League on its website.

Several nationalist movements also condemned these acts, including the Corsican Nation Party (PNC) and Femu a Corsica, the autonomist movement of Gilles Simeoni, president of the Corsican local authority.

“Anti-Semitism, xenophobia and racism will never have their place in the Corsican society we want to build,” said Femu a Corsica in a message posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Anti-Semitic tags have been proliferating all over France since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas on October 7.France, Europe and the United States have seen a sharp rise in anti-Semitism since the Hamas attacks on southern Israel.

While French municipalities and authorities widely denounce and condemn these anti-Semitic acts, the Israel-Hamas conflict continues to be imported into the country, notably by La France insoumise far left party, who encourage actions against Israel, harming the tranquility and security of France’s Jews and national cohesion and deepening divisions a little further.
