Holocaust survivor to Steven Spielberg: speak out for the hostages and in support of  Israel

''Mr Spielberg, we are asking you to use your voice.''

The President of the Holocaust Survivors Foundation USA, 94-year-old David Schaechter, wrote an open letter to Spielberg. ‘’We do not need another film in 3 years about the horrors of October 7th. Instead, we need you and others to speak out NOW, when it truly matters,” he wrote.

‘’With all my heart, I encourage you to speak out for the children, women and men kidnapped and held hostage, and in support of Israel and Israel’s right to defend herselfd.’’

With these words, the President of the Holocaust Survivors Foundation-USA, 94-year-old David Schaecter, wrote an open letter to film director Steven  Spielberg, pressing him to speak out in support of the hostages held by Hamas and Israel’s right to defend itself.

The Holocaust Survivors Foundation)USA is the only organization that is run by survivors for the benefit of survivors .

‘’I have admired your career and especially your work to tell the world about the horrors of the Holocaust, in film, and in helping to document the experience of tens of thousands of survivors,’’ Schaecter wrote.

“That is why I, along with countless other survivors, are so heartbroken that, since Oct. 7, 2023, you have not spoken out and publicly taken a stand against terrorism, against Hamas and the millions who celebrate the shedding of Jewish blood — and want more,” he addded.

He continued: “Wasn’t the purpose of recording 50,000 testimonies of our fellow survivors to make sure the world would never be able to deny, and must never forget, the Nazis’ systematic murder of 6 million Jews, including 1.5 million children ? On Oct. 7, Hamas committed the worst atrocities against the Jewish people since the Holocaust.”

“As one young Jewish woman, whose sister and nieces are living in a bomb shelter and brother in law is on the Gaza border wrote recently: Never Again is Now.’’

‘’We who personnally witnessed the horrors of the Holocaust never thought we would ever again see atrocities like those committed on October 7th; the murder and mutilation of innocent babies and children, the savage rape of women and the elderly, and the massacre of entire families,’’ the letter reads.

‘’Today, we not only see much of the world again remain silent, we see mass demonstrations in many cities and countless posts on social media supporting Hamas, a barbarian terror organization.’’

Shaecter noted that Spielberg’s Schindler’s List was about one man having the moral courage to risk his life to save others. ‘’We are not asking to risk your life. We are asking you to use your voice.’’

The letter ends with the words: ‘’We do not need another film in 3 years about the horrors of October 7th. Instead, we need you and others to speak out NOW, when it truly matters.’’

The letter was also signed  by the members of the Holocaust Foundation’s Executive Committee.
