France orders ban on all pro-Palestinian protests

France’s Interior Minister banned pro-Palestinian demonstrations in France, amid the war between Israel and Hamas.

Gérald Darmanin sent “strict instructions” to ban “pro-Palestinian demonstrations because they are likely to generate public order disturbances,” French media reported.

‘’The organization of these prohibited demonstrations should lead to arrests,” the minister

The minister said that more than 100 antisemitic cases have been reported in France since Hamas launched its attacks in Israel on Saturday, killing at least 1300 people.

France is home to Europe’s largest Muslim and Jewish communities.

The speaker of the French National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, who led a minute of silence for the victims of the Hamas attacks, reportedly received death threats. Her  house was put under extra police protection.

On Thursday, in a solmen address tot he nation, French President Emmanuel Macron said the government had acted to boost police protection of Jewish sites, including schools and synagogues, and that there could be no justification for the atrocities committed by Hamas. “There is no ‘Yes, but’. Those who confuse the Palestinian cause with the justification of terrorism are making a moral, political and strategic mistake,” Macron said.

In Germany, Chancellor Olaf Scholz also banned all Hamas-linked activities after some people celebrated the terrorist group’s attack on Israel.
