France has asked Israel to postpone the expulsion of Franco-Palestinian Salah Hamouri who is accused of being a member of a terrorist organization, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP).

In 2005, Hamouri was charged with planning to kill Israel’s Chief Rabbi Ovadia Yosef and sentenced to seven years in prison. Freed as part of a prisoner swap with Hamas, he was later placed in administrative detention for 13 months for links to an illegal organization.

Anna Azari, Foreign Ministry deputy director-general for Europe, told French Ambassador to Israel Eric Danon on Sunday that Hamouri’s residency in Jersalem was being revoked in view of his continued and active membership in the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.

“Israel is committed to fighting terror[sic]and is acting against the terrorists among us,” she said.

Hamouri has served several prison sentences for numerous security crimes, funding other acts of terrorism and active membership recruitment for the PFLP.

A French foreign ministry spokesperson said that Hamouri ‘’must be able to lead a normal life in Jerusalem, where he was born and where he resides.’’ ”The French authorities are closely monitoring Salah Hamouri’s situation at a high level,” he said.
