“This was a historic ceremony that reflects the values of peace and tolerance in the Kingdom of Morocco. We are very proud of the progress of our relations,” said David Govrin, head of Israel’s Liaison Office in Rabat.

For the first time, Israel’s independence was celebrated in Morocco, the Moroccan press reported.

The head of the Israeli Liaison Office in Rabat, David Govrin, held earlier this month a ceremony to celebrate Israel’s 74th Independence Day in the presence of several prominent Moroccan personalities, including André Azoulay, Advisor to Morocco’s King Mohammed VI.

“This was a historic ceremony that reflects the values of peace and tolerance in the Kingdom of Morocco. We are very proud of the progress of our relations,” said Govrin.

After six decades of hidden meetings and coopeation, Israel and Morocco normalized their diplomatic relations in December 2020 under the UDS-led  Abraham Accords.

While the two countries established liaison offices in Rabat and Tel Aviv, reports said that Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita would soon visit Israel to inaugurate an embassy.

Since the normalization, the two countries have not stopped signing agreements and treaties in key sectors of their economies.
