Hosted by the Frankfurt am Main Municipality and the Combat Anti-Semitism Movement, participants will include the Mayors of Buenos Aires, Pittsburgh, Toronto, Montevideo, Athens, Brussels, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Malaga, Porto, Tirana, Bologna, Poway and Bal Harbour

Anti-Semitism is not only a national or international issue. It is also a local problem which manifests itself in cities and localities and can often best be solved through mayoral initiatives in the areas of education, law-enforcement, and community cohesion.

For this reason, the 2021 Mayors Summit Against Anti-Semitism, which is set to open on Tuesday, will start a crucial dialogue between cities around the world in order to provide municipal leaders with the tools they require to combat hate.

The online event will be hosted by the Frankfurt municipality and the Combat Anti-Semitism Movement (CAM). It will bring together municipal and local leaders of 30 cities from 19 countries across the world, empowering them to eradicate anti-Semitism, prejudice and hatred from their cities.

Key speakers will include Frankfurt Mayor Uwe Becker, Pittsburgh Mayor William Peduto, Buenos Aires Mayor Horacio Rodríguez Larreta,  Toronto Mayor John Tory, Montevideo Mayor Carolina Cosse, Amsterdam Mayor Femke Halsema, Athens Mayor Kostas Bakoyannis, Brussels Mayor Philippe Close,Malaga Mayor Francisco de la Torre, Porto Mayor Rui Moreira, Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj, Bologna Mayor Virginio Merola, Poway Mayor Steve Vaus and Bal Harbour Mayor Gabriel Groisman.

Panel sessions will examine practical solutions for mayors in combatting Jew-hatred in their cities. Topics include education, the IHRA working definition of anti-Semitism, legislation, security, law enforcement and cross-communal relations.

Senior officials from the U.S. and the EU will participate, including US Senator Jacky Rosen, Vera Jourova, Vice President of the European Commission for Values and Transparency and Michael O’Flaherty, Director of the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights.

The Mayors Summit Against Anti-Semitism will give mayors and municipal leaders from diverse cities an important opportunity to come together, to talk about their experiences and to share best practices and tools, which can ultimately be harnessed to help defeat anti-Semitism.”
