Parliaments and officials from the Balkans will come together on Wednesday for the first ever Balkans Forum Against Anti-Semitism.

Participants in the online event will include Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama, Speakers of Parliament in Albania, Kosovo and North Macedonia, as well as senior officials from the United Nations, United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Italy and Israel.

Senior officials will also include U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and European Paliament President David Sassoli and Yariv Levin, Speaker of the Knesset, the Israeli parliament..

The aim of the Forum is to create a united front among Balkans countries to work together in order to eradicate the scourge of anti-Semitism from discourse and daily life and to create better, more tolerant societies for future generations.

The event organized by Albanian parliament in partnership with the Combat Anti-Semitism Movement and the Jewish Agency for Israel.

Last week, Albania became the first Muslim country to adopt the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s (IHRA) working definition of antisemitism.

“It is good news that we, the Albanians and the peoples of the Western Balkans, a region that has suffered more than any other part of the world, the consequences of ethno-centrist and religious-centrist views and attitudes, join this emancipatory action of contemporary civilization: the fight against anti-Semitism,” said Gramoz Ruci, Speaker of the Albanian parliament.
