Fifth person charged in France in connection with planned terrorist attack on Israeli embassy in Brussels

A fifth person was charged in France last Friday with planning to attack the Israeli embassy in Belgium last year, according to media reports.

The person is the elder sister of a teenager previously indicted in this case.

The investigation began in June 2023, following the discovery of conversations between several teenagers, including a 15-year-old from the Indre-et-Loire department in central France, who was seen as the ringleader.

The plan was to carry out a “violent action” against the Israeli embassy in Brussels.

The plan was first to shoot down the police officers stationed outside the building in the Brussels municipality of Uccle, then to drop a van “packed with explosives” against the site. According to the investigation, “preparatory acts” dated from April 2023 onwards. Two teenagers, described as “fascinated” by jihadist ideology, made explosive devices and filmed themselves testing them.

As quoted by Le Parisien, one message sent between the teens read: “Our goal is to terrorise the Jews.” The teens said that they specifically wanted to target Israeli embassy workers. “Blood must be shed as much as possible,” another message read.
