Extraordinary meeting of EU Foreign Ministers on Tuesday to discuss Iran’s ‘unprecedented’ attacks on Israel

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell: "Following the Iranian attacks against Israel, I have called an extraordinary... meeting of EU foreign affairs ministers on Tuesday.''

“The EU reiterates its commitment to the security of Israel. In this highly tense regional situation, further escalation can be no one’s interest. We call on all parties to exercise utmost restraint,” EU’s foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said in a statement.

The 27 European Union Foreign Mministers will meet on Tuesday by video conference to discuss the escalation in tensions in the Middle East following Iran’s attacks against Israel, EU foreign policy chief announced.

“Following the Iranian attacks against Israel, I have called an extraordinary… meeting of EU foreign affairs ministers on Tuesday,” Borrell wrote on X.

“Our objective is to contribute to de-escalation and security of the region,’’ he added.

In a statement on behalf of the EU, Borrell said that ‘’the EU condemns in the strongest terms the Iranian drone and missile attacks against Israel. This is an unprecedented escalation and a threat to regional security.”

Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz spoke Sunday with British Foreign Secretary David Cameron and French Foreign Minister Stéphane Séjourné. He thanked them for their assistance in thwarting Iranian attacks on Israel and for their steadfast support and true friendship in times of need, he said on X social media.

He added : ‘’However, I emphasized: Israel, like any other country, is committed to defend its citizens. I told them – it’s your time to weaken the Iranian regime, to proscribe the IRGC as a terrorist organization, and to impose crippling sanctions on the Iranian missile project. Iran must pay a price.’’
