Indirect talks, mediated by the EU, are ongoing in Vienna.

According to a report by Channel 12, Israel is concerned that the Biden administration may be too eager to re-enter the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran.

EU’s foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell sounded optimistic on Monday about the prospect of an agreement between the U.S. and Iran on the return to the Joint Comprehensive Action Plan (JCPOA), the 2015 nuclear deal.

Speaking to reporters after a virtual meeting of EU Foreign Affairs on Monday, Borrell spoke of ‘’lighter progress’’ in the Vienna talks which, he said, are ‘’more focused’’ on two issues: lifting (U.S.) sanctions on Iran and nuclear implementation.

‘’I spoke last week with U.S. Secretary Blinken when he was in Brussels. I also talked with Iranian Foreign Minister Zarif. I think that both parties are really interested in reaching an agreement. They have been moving from  general to more focused issues which are clearly sanctions lifting on one side and nuclear implementation issues on the other side,’’ Borrell told a briefing after the meeting.

He added: ‘’I cannot go into details but I think that there is a real goodwill from both parts to reach an agreement and this is good news.’’

According to a report by Channel 12, Israel is concerned that the Biden administration may be too eager to re-enter the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran.

The report cited an anonymous Israeli official as saying that both Washington and Tehran are interested in striking an accord — and that the latter could tell that the US was willing to concede a lot for that.
