Elderly Jewish man brutally attacked in Los Angeles neighborhood

LOS ANGELES (EJP)—An elderly Jewish man wearing a kippah and dressed in ultra-Orthodox clothing was brutally attacked as he walked to morning prayers in a Los Angeles neighborhood, the Jewish Journal reported.

The attack took place  in the Fairfax District, near the Congregation Bais Yehuda synagogue. Residents in the neighborhood are convinced the victim was targeted for being Jewish.

Surveillance video showed the assailant punching and kicking the man, Rabbi Perkovsky, knocking him to the ground. The assailant then walks away from the scene.

The Los Angeles Police Department said that the victim suffered from a split lip.

Los Angeles police have not classified the attack as a hate crime or robbery but rather a random attack, local news reported.
