EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell welcomed the release of four Israeli hostages from captivity in Gaza while also condemning the ‘’high Palestinian death toll reported in the rescue operation.’’

“Reports from Gaza of another massacre of civilians are appalling. We condemn this in the strongest terms,” Borrell wrote on X, one day after the rescue operation by the Israeli army that led to four hostages being freed.

The four hostages freed on Saturday – “Noa Argamani, Almog Meir Jan, Andrey Kozlov and Shlomi Ziv – were released after Israel conducted a special daytime spectacular  operation in a residential area in Nuseirat, central Gaza. All of them are in good medical condition, officials said.
