“Belgium cannot remain silent in the face of the genocide threat in Gaza,’’ declared Belgian Deputy Prime Minister Petra De Sutter who expressed support for the action launched by South Africa against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague.
“We must take action against the threat of genocide,” she wrote on the X social media.
‘’I want Belgium to take action at the International Court of Justice, following the lead of South Africa. I will propose this within the Belgian government,” De Sutter.
The Christian Democrats and Greens reportedly want the Belgian coalition government to request the ICJ to open an investigation against Israel. De Sutter, who is from the Green party, said she will raise the issue in cabinet.
De Sutter previously had asserted that “it is time to boycott Israel. Bombing like rain is inhumane. It is clear that Israel ignores international calls for a ceasefire.”
