Along with Saudi Arabia, Bahrain opened its airspace last week to allow flights between Israel and the UAE.

Next Tuesday at the White House the UAE and Israel will officially sign their normalization accord. Bahrain will now join that ceremony, with its foreign minister Abdullatif Al Zayani and Netanyahu signing “a historic Declaration of Peace.

Bahrain became Friday the second Gulf state to normalize its relations with Israel.

Manama follows the recent decision by the United Arab Emirates to normalize ties in August. It is the fourth between Israel and an Arab state, including Egypt in 1979 and Jordan in 1994.

U.S. President Donal Trump tweeted out the news after he spoke by phone to both Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the White  House said.

Trump also tweeted: “Another HISTORIC breakthrough today! Our two GREAT friends Israel and the Kingdom of Bahrain agree to a Peace Deal – the second Arab country to make peace with Israel in 30 days!”

“This is a historic breakthrough to further peace in the Middle East,” the United States, Bahrain and Israel said in a joint statement.

Netanyahu said the agreement marks a “new era of peace.”

The king of Bahrain reiterated the necessity of reaching a fair and lasting peace between the Israelis and Palestinians, based on the two state solution, in a call with Netanyahu and Trump, Bahrain’s state news agency BNA saidy.
