A Jewish student at the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium, had seen his door tagged with swastikas and other antisemitic graffiti last weekend, POLITICO reported.

The College Rector, Federica Mogherini, a former EU foreign affairs chief, announced an investigation and threatened the perpetrators with sanctions.

“Promoting hate is not and will never be tolerated within our walls,” said Mogherini.

“This goes against the very founding principles of this institution and is a betrayal of our European values and heritage,”said Emma Hallali, president of the European Union of Jewish Students (UEJS), adding that ‘’serious sanctions must be taken.”

The College of Europe is a prestigious post-graduate institution of European studies which trains the next generation of EU officials and diplomats.

Belgium, like several other European countries, has recorded an important rise in the number of antisemitic incidents in the wake of the conflict in Gaza since Hamas’ attack on Israel on October 7.
