Jewish man attacked in Berlin by group of men and women after they noticed he was wearing a Star of David

BERLIN—A Jewish man was attacked Saturday night in Berlin by a group of men and women who he asked for a light for his cigarette after they noticed he was wearing a Star of David.

The 10 men and women, both Syrians and Germans,  aged 15 to 21 were arrested following the attack and later released pending an investigation, news service Deutsche Welle reported. The group included six Syrians and three Germans..

The victim old Deutsche Welle that when a member of the group saw his Star of David he shouted anti-Semitic insults.

The aggressors chased him, knocked him to the ground and beat him. He was hospitalized for his injuries.

The attackers ran away when passersby came to help the downed man.

Last April, a Syrian man was found guilty of an attack against an Israeli man who was wearing a kippah also in Berlin.

The magazine Der Spiegel also reported that a 14-year-old teenager  was transferred from a school in Berlin to another school after suffering anti-Semitic abuse. The teenager was subjected to verbal harassment after revealing he was Jewish. He was also grabbed and threatened with a realistic-looking pistol that later turned out to be fake.

“Listen, you are a cool dude but I can’t be friends with you,” one of his former classmates said. “Jews are all murderers.”
