JERUSALEM—Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz announced Tuesday that the final stages of the construction of the electric railway connecting Jerusalem and Tel Aviv would be completed within three months, and that service would begin on March 30th, on the eve of Passover.

The new train will be capable of traveling at speeds of up to 160 kilometers per hour (roughly 100 MPH), and will complete the journey between the two cities in just 30 minutes. Furthermore, during the train’s first three months of operation, the general public will be allowed to use it free of charge.

“This Passover, we will make it possible for all people of Israel to ascend to Jerusalem on the fast-rail from Tel Aviv,” Katz said.
