NEW YORK—The American Jewish Committee (AJC) launched a campaign calling on Jews and non-Jews worldwide to come to synagogue this Shabbat in response to the shooting at Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life Synagogue that killed 11 worshippers during Shabbat services last week.
‘’From New York to New Zealand and from Utah to the UK, thousands of Jews and non-Jews are pledging to #ShowUpForShabbat this weekend in solidarity with Pittsburgh’s Jewish community and sending a resounding message that love triumphs over hate,’’ the AJC wrote.
“What could be a more fitting response to the terror in Pittsburgh?” AJC CEO David Harris said in a statement. “We are not afraid. We are not going to think twice about affirming our identity and faith. We are not alone.”
‘’Actress Mayim Bialik of CBS’s “The Big Bang Theory,” U.S. Ambassador to Israel (2011-2017) Dan Shapiro, and Arianna Huffington, co-founder of The Huffington Post, have already shared with their millions of followers on Instagram and Twitter that they are taking part in AJC’s #ShowUpForShabbat campaign,’’ AJC said.
